AWAMO was founded to ensure that the courage and sacrifice of animals in conflict are never forgotten. More than 9 million animals lost their lives in WWI alone, and their service continues to inspire remembrance today. Since 2009, AWAMO has established over 40 memorials across Australia and internationally, located at RSLs, government sites, schools, parks, and military museums.
Many of these plaques, designed with Vision Australia, include 3D images that allow vision-impaired children to touch, identify, and even make classroom rubbings of the six animals represented.
