War leaves few untouched. While the human cost is visible and devastating, animals are often the silent victims, caught in conflict they neither caused nor understand. Across Ukraine, countless animals have been displaced, injured, abandoned, or left without food, shelter, or veterinary care as the conflict continues.
The Australian War Animals Memorial Organisation (AWAMO) believes that remembrance must also be matched with action. That belief is at the heart of our support for animals affected by the war in Ukraine.
From companion animals separated from their families to working animals and wildlife impacted by bombing, destruction, and displacement, the scale of suffering is immense. Many rescue groups and volunteers are working in dangerous conditions to provide emergency care, evacuation, and shelter, often with limited resources.
Animals in war zones face:
Their suffering is real, and their need is urgent.
AWAMO was founded to honour the service and sacrifice of animals in war. Supporting animals in Ukraine is a natural extension of that mission.
Through fundraising, awareness campaigns, and partnerships with trusted organisations on the ground, AWAMO helps provide critical support where it is needed most. This includes assistance for food supplies, medical care, rescue efforts, and ongoing animal welfare support in conflict-affected areas.
While memorials preserve memory, humanitarian action protects life.
Animals have always been part of conflict, whether serving alongside humans or living as civilians in war-torn communities. They do not choose war, yet they endure its consequences.
By supporting animals in Ukraine, we:
Every donation, shared message, and show of support makes a difference. Funds raised through AWAMO initiatives help ensure animals affected by war are not forgotten and not left without care.
Together, we can honour the past while responding to the present.
Supporting animals in Ukraine reflects what AWAMO stands for: remembrance that leads to responsibility, and honour that inspires action.
In times of war, compassion is a powerful force.
