Volunteer with AWAMO

A simple act that carries real meaning

One heartfelt way to participate is to contact your local RSL SubBranch and ask whether they will acknowledge War and Service Animal Day. Most are open to including a tribute, and your request can be the gentle nudge that brings these animals into the light of remembrance.

From there, you can purchase a purple poppy wreath - the symbol of animals in war—and lay it on the 24th February. It’s a small act, but standing there with that wreath in your hands, you feel the weight of all those stories: the horses who carried wounded soldiers to safety, the dogs who ran messages through gunfire, the pigeons who flew until their wings failed.

Why this matters

  • It gives a voice to those who never had one.
  • It ensures their service isn’t forgotten in the shadow of human sacrifice.
  • It brings compassion into our remembrance traditions in a way that resonates with people of all ages.
