Afghan Service Dog
Yardley, imported from a breeding program in Melbourne, and Chuck, a Springer Spaniel, deployed to Afghanistan’s Bamiyan Province in late 2012, returning in April 2013. Together, they formed a highly effective team supporting patrols and IED detection. Yardley retired in 2018 to his Afghanistan handler.
AWAMO proudly continues to provide medical care and support for these dogs, ensuring their well-being in retirement. In 2025, Yardley and Chuck were jointly awarded the inaugural Distinguished Animal Service Award for New Zealand, highlighting their extraordinary service.
