What an amazing career she has had and how comforting to know that the safety and security of VIPs and dignitaries was secure with Venus on duty. How wonderful too her ambassadorial role, visiting hospitals and schools bringing joy to those who meet her. Even in retirement she continues to serve her country as Mascot of the Australian Army Veterinary Corps Ceremonial Troop- Qld.
I am extremely pleased to confirm that we`ve awarded Venus a PDSA Commendation for animal devotion. She joins an illustrious list of animals whose remarkable actions undoubtedly saved the lives of their companions.
“It is with great sadness that I had to say farewell to my beloved K9 partner and best mate PD 269 VENUS. She served as an Explosive Detection dog from 2009 to 2016. Retired and became the Australian Army Veterinary Corps Qld Troop- Mascot as well as a well deserved retirement at my home. She is so far the only Australian Police dog to be awarded the UK PDSA Commendation Award, as well as a Police Commissioners Award. I will miss you forever my beautiful girl.” – Nigel Allsopp 8th February 2022
