Since being placed with his owner, Les Parker through DVA in 2022, Ikey has provided essential and life-changing support in managing the effects of post-traumatic stress disorder. His presence has enabled Les to regain stability, independence, and purpose, allowing me to reintegrate into community life and resume volunteer service with the Queensland State Emergency Service, Disaster Relief Australia, and the Townsville RSL.

Ikey’s service encompasses far more than personal assistance. He has become an invaluable volunteer companion, attending hospitals, aged-care facilities, schools, emergency communications center’s, and veterans’ support environments. His calm, intuitive nature provides comfort, reassurance, and emotional grounding to individuals in distress, including war widows, elderly veterans, first responders, at-risk youth, and members of the ADF community. His impact is immediate, genuine, and widely recognised.

Throughout numerous community engagements and deployments, Ikey has demonstrated exceptional temperament, reliability, and therapeutic effectiveness. His influence has reached individuals experiencing acute mental health challenges, with several attributing significant emotional improvement—and in one case, the will to continue living—to the support and connection that Ikey helped facilitate.

In 2026, Ikey Parker will receive the Animal Distinguished Service commendation award in recognition of his distinguished and ongoing service to both his owner and the broader community. His contributions exemplify the purpose and spirit of this honor.
