Many people have seen Dalmatians running alongside Fire engines or Budweiser coaches, not many people may realise they served in many wars.

For example, Dalmatians were used during the Balkan Wars of 1912 and 1913, both World Wars as messenger, guard or red cross dogs.

Along with representatives of other breeds, they successfully carried out guard duty, guarded military and civilian facilities, and served as patrol dogs. In 1943, the US 89th Infantry Division trained Dalmatians to deliver water, supplies, and essential medical supplies to the wounded.
