Digger

Gallipoli & Western Front War Dog

On 29 June at the West Croydon RSL in South Australia, Digger, a bulldog who served at Gallipoli and the Western Front, became the first Australian animal to receive the Blue Cross Award. Despite being gassed, shot, and blinded in one eye, Digger served bravely – warning troops of gas attacks, carrying food to the wounded, and even retrieving messages from no man’s land.
