Through partnerships with registered training organisations such as Young Diggers and Delta Dogs, and in conjunction with the 7 Brigade Army Welfare and Rehabilitation Centre in Brisbane, AWAMO has provided funding to sponsor service dogs for individuals experiencing PTSD. These welfare assistance dogs serve as companions, providing comfort and emotional support in hospitals, workplaces, and other high-stress environments.
Beyond emotional support, the dogs are trained to assist people with disabilities or medical conditions, including those using wheelchairs, experiencing balance issues, living with autism, or requiring seizure or medical alerts. They can perform tasks such as retrieving objects, opening and closing doors, operating light switches, alerting for help, guiding their handlers, and providing balance assistance.
AWAMO’s support includes both the provision of dogs and financial assistance for training, ensuring veterans and emergency service workers have the specialised support they need to thrive in daily life.
